Oktoberfest at Put-in-Bay via The Miller Ferry

The Lake Erie islands are one of my favorite staycations in Cleveland during the warm, summer months. This season, we only made one trip up to Catawba and Kelley’s Island. As a kid, my parents would take the family up to the islands and as an adult, I found myself heading up to Put-in-Bay mostly to party. PIB has to be the top local destination for bacehlor and bachelorette parties! It’s cray-cray up there in the summer…and I love it!

However, when Dean and I were invited to attend Oktoberfest this past weekend up at Put-in-Bay, I was looking forward to a more tame and laid back weekend on the island. Wish granted!

After a quick trip over from Catawba on the Miller Ferry, we grabbed our golfcart, explored the island and checked into our hotel, The BayShore Resort. The hotel was perfect for us being that it was only a minute or two cart ride downtown and close to the attractions. It’s also a perfect place for anyone who wants to avoid the party scene on the island in the summer (they have a strict no coolers allowed policy).

We ate schnitzel and various kinds of chicken paprikash alongside a pitcher of cider beer while we chatted with a nice local couple before we were stuffed and my bones were chilly at Oktoberfest!

The rest of our day consisted of checking out what was an awesome beach bar, Mojito’s, warming up at our hotel restaurant and jamming out at The Roundhouse. Yes, I ended up on stage with the band. They may or may not have wanted me up there. The jury is still out and I’m mad Dean didn’t snap a photo!

Not only was the island in full fall bloom, but the ride out there was gorgeous. It was a great way to say goodbye to the islands until next year!

PS: Shoutout to Whitney! It was nice to finally meet you!

Disclosure: I was invited with a guest to attend the Oktoberfest via the Miller Ferry by the Miller Boat Line. We were also given a golf cart for the day.
